Hi Karen,
Just flat iron your whole head and don't use any heat spray or anything like you normally would. The hair needs to be very clean and free from products to get a good hold of the bonds. Use clarifying shampoo if you have or a regular shampoo without a lot of oils in it. Rinse thouroughly and a good idea is also to do an acv rinse (acv= apple cider vinegar) 1 part vinegar to 8-10 parts water, doesn't need to be measured that accurately, use as a final rinse. It works as a detangler and removes shampoo residue in the hair, also adds shine. Don't worry about the smell it disappears once the hair is dry. You could use a little conditioner on the ends of your hair only, but try not to if you can. I really recommend the acv rinse instead of conditioner.
The hairspray is used so that all the little hairs that are growing out can lie down, and not get in the way when you are making the smaller sections to attach the bonds to your hair. Remember to spray at a distance and to use only very little when you make a new row. If you use too much the hair will be sticky and it will be more difficult to make the small sections. Clean hair, straightening and patience are more important.
Good luck and remember to post porn _________________ Soon to be installed: 18 inches Indian Virgin curly...

I concur with Tressie's every word! I just want to add that I use a hairspray that is a bit lighter, one considered a "working" spray rather than a "fixing" spray. It's just enough hold to keep those fine hairs out of the way without making the hair sticky. _________________ Do-It-Yourself semi-permanent eyelash extension kits that can give you a professional result with your very first application!

Kristie, Not sure about the coloring. I have some leftover #2 from my install. How about I send it to you and you can test it with the coloring products you use?
Karen, I flat iron my whole head and then will do it row by row also, just because the hair above it is pulled up and I can straighten it closer to the root. I haven't used the hairspray yet. I clarify my hair a few times prior to install and then no conditioner. I still lose some bonds, though, throughout my install and typically in the same area, the back where it's harder to line up. I put 5 of them back in yesterday and then added another ounce of hair. The ounce I added was a few days after washing, just checking out the hold of the bond on my "dirty" hair, too. Seems to be no difference yet.
Tressie, it definitely passes for very long hair. I flat iron after air-drying, no product. I'm not taking any chances on product wrecking the hair. The hair straightens quite quickly and easily.
Karen, if your hair is "dead straight" for application it gives you nicer wear throughout. In my last 2 installs I did not do this and by a month I had little hairs tangling around my bonds and causing matting at my scalp. With this install, it's been a month and I have no sign of those tangles. My bonds are growing out nicely and not twisting or causing any problems. I have to attribute this to using a flat iron on each row I made before application. I think using these tips and along with that beautiful hair, you will love your install. I can't wait for your updates, photos and your install diary. Thanks for planning to do all that! _________________ MANEMAXX DIY Hair Extensions: http://manemaxx.com

Oh yeah. Way more than enough! Yanno, I'm one of those girls who can be more than happy with 5 inches!!! Laughing... Seriously, that will be a nice sized piece to be able to photograph, before and after coloring. What's it like putting it up in a pony tail? Can you put it up? |

It's no problem to put the hair up in a pony tail or a bun. The only thing you should consider is how you like to wear your hair before doing your extensions. If you mostly wear your hair down, then you can make the rows start a little lower in your neck, mid-ear level or a little lower, also depending how full your hair is in that area. If you prefer a high pony then start a little higher when you make the rows.
If you like the kind of pony where you only put some of the hair up from your sides and the top of your head, then you might have a few bonds show a little. But a few bobby pins might help with that. Always use a mirror to check your back. _________________ Soon to be installed: 18 inches Indian Virgin curly...
