OK so this will be quite a long post with many additions.

On Wednesday, I finally was able to remove my install. It was BEGGING to be removed. Some wefts were totally coming undone, some were already hanging, others weren't budging.
TIP:My highest weft complete fell off and was hanging by one side. So it was a bit difficult to use my safety pin trick when there was nothing above it but my scalp to attach Shocked So I took a hair bobby pin, not the "v" shaped kind, but the ones that you can use to like pull your bangs back with...you know what I mean? Anyhow, I used that to attach my upper weft to the one below it...with minimum adjustments it held for 2 weeks.

Anyhow, I used the Supersolve for the first time. I really like it!! Much better than Goo Gone...I always found with Goo Gone, if it saturated into my scalp in certain parts, it burned like a bitch! With this stuff no problems at all. Plus what I love about it is that it's in a spray bottle so it is much easier to apply without pouring the entire bottle out into your hair!

It was very interesting how some of the wefts would come off with just a 30 second waiting period of the Super Solv to set in...and others...I needed the Jaws of life to take them out! I mean literally one of them was stuck in there for like 30 minutes! It was sooo bizarre!

Then came my fave part of every removal...picking out the LG boogers! Yes I am a weirdo! But I just love that part...I used my parting comb to get every little bit out...The only not so fun part was when the hair was coming out with it, although I didn't really notice that any roots came out, so that was good. I guess it's shedding season!
(I will post a pic of the monsterous hairball when I get home much later tonight.)
I then went ahead and cleaned my wefts in my typical acetone bath with a toothbrush. I have to say nothing works better than that! I had several little wefts (like 10) and I cleaned them off in 15 minutes!!! Anything that didnt come off then, came off in the bathtub when I washed them.

Ok onto last night's experience:

*Sidenote: I have pics of the entire process below that I will be posting later, however, my camera died on me last night, and it was so damn late that I just did not have time to wait for it to charge so I can download pics*

I sewed my wefts into 4 long horseshoe type tracks (although I have a small head so they aren't THAT long). Then I also have two teeny wefts that go on the side of my head about 4 inches below my part...

I ended up using Kristie's double sandwich method...it was def more time consuming than I thought it would be...I started putting the Supertape on the wefts at 10:15pm...I finished my install at 1:00am! Shocked

With the Supertape I just went really slow, and there are pics that show my little technique that I used to anchor the tape down...I left about a 1/4 inch of tape on the ends of the weft, I am not sure why, it just seemed easier to seal it shut that way... Confused Anyhow, before I sealed it shut, I put a thin layer of LG on (the good ole stuff) and then slowly, closed it with my fingers...as soon as I did that, I used my flat iron on it...several times over making sure that I sealed every little bit, especially the ends. Then I let it cool down while I do the other weft.

I went a bit OCD with making my parts perfect...and making sure everything was clean and neat...my first part took me 45 minutes!!! I have no clue why the hell it took so long, but like I said I was OCD with those parts...once I FINALLY got the part...I used Kristie's hairspray technique to spray down all those little baby hairs and it really helped me a lot!

Once I was ready to install...at about 11pm, I took one of my triple wefts with Supertape on it, and exposed one side of the weft, lifting the paper off of only ONE side...(I promise once I post pics this will make sense)
then I put a layer of LG on the side that was going to be attached to my head...I waited for about 30 seconds just so it had an opportunity to get a bit tacky...then, now this is where I do it a bit differently than most others, I removed the white backing paper...now the only reason I did that, is because the white paper does not allow me to see where I am putting my weft on my part. Once I slowly placed the weft right below my part, I held it there with my fingers...pressing on the ends alone for about 30 seconds, then I went on and pressed the rest in for a good minute...THEN I took that piece of white back paper, and put it BACK ON to the weft that was on my head...I do this for the next step...I use my straightner to apply heat to the wefts so they stick better, and there have been sooooo many times that I burned the crap out of my scalp by doing that, so I figured that the white paper would help prevent that...IT DID! Razz I ran the straightner back and forth the weft, concentrating on the ends, and getting those little Supertape ends that I left a little longer, to stick really, really well.

Once this was over, with the white backing paper still on, I started to add the "single sandwich" layer, I just used my parting comb to add a VERY thin layer on top of the SuperTape...I leave the white backing on so that when I start parting my "single sandwich" layer it does not stick to the Super Tape, until I am ready for it to! Very Happy Then once I have my layer nice and ready, I take it into one hand, and hold it up. I remove the white backing and place the layer on the Super Tape...and of coarse...PRESS PRESS PRESS...

Then the final step in this layer...I take my other triple weft that I cut the same size as the previous one, in fact it was just a tad bit longer on the edges...which worked out better...I put a layer of LG on it...waited 30 seconds and I placed it right above the single sandwich layer...This is much easier to see in the pic that I will post later...then repeat the above steps, hold, heat, and press press press!!!

Now you are ready for the next layer! I did one more layer like this, and my two side pieces...sure does feel nice to only have 2 nice TIGHT layers instead of 18,000 little weft pieces all over my head!!! Laughing

This process definitley took a LOT longer than I expected...but I was being super careful...And taking the extra time to ensure that they stuck everywhere...too bad I will be taking the install out in 3 weeks cuz of vacay! Oh well! At least next time it won't take as long Laughing

I promise to post pics as soon as I get home later tonight!

Y'know..i had that same experience with the supersolve on my last takedown...lol Some of the wefts dropped right out...but the top one would not come out for anything....The supersolv had actually dried and the tape kind of re-stuck about halfway out...I used almost my entire bottle getting that one out and it left sticky residue almost all the way down my hair...no matter how much I washed...it would not come out...but it was only the top weft that did that...the others slid right out...very strange...I am going to try just acetone next time on a cotton ball...i lost WAY too much hair getting that one out, I can't afford to have that happen anymore because I barely have any hair as it is now....lol...and cleaning them was a nightmare where the supersolve had completely obliterated the tap into little boogies that stuck like friggin superglue...adding more supersolve only seemed to compouind the issue...so I've gotta try something else I think...googone works, but burns my scalp too...and is really hard to wash out of the hair....so acetone is my next one....will it take the tapes out fast you think?

Peace

Shawn

I used only LG on my last install so I couldn't tell you...I found that the acetone burned my scalp badly too...have you tried soaking the wefts in acetone and brushing them with a toothbrush? When I initially got this hair from Amanda, she had tapes on them...and I soaked in acetone...which seemed to work...and whatever did not come off, I used Googone with my tooth brush scrubbing technique to get them off...they were shiney and new after that!

Mila,

Thank you for such detailed instructions! I too love to get every single LG booger out of my wefts. I don't know why it is so satisfying to get those wefts spotlessly clean, but it is!

I'm glad the SuperSolv worked for you. I like its gentleness and that it doesn't leave a greasy residue on my hair.

I think you'll find that being careful with parting and application makes for less hairs getting broken off during the time you wear your install. And maybe after your trip you'll be able to wear one of those double-sandwich installs for longer than three weeks. As long as you touch up the covering wefts' ends with LG when they lift, that install should last at least 4-5 weeks. If I weren't so fussy, I'm sure mine could go 8.

Looking forward to seeing the pictures...

Y'know...I suppose it could have been some kind of operator error...lol...The bottom tracks were a breeze...just that top one....weird huh?.....but I'm gonna score some acetone and try it on the weft cleaning.....I'm gonna stick with the supersolv on my head for now anyway, because I really haven't used it enough times to really know how to work it well...and it doesn't burn...I don't want to burn my scalp...Maybe I'll just go one track at a time for the takedown instead of soaking all the wefts with it and letting it sit....I'm not one to be defeated!!!....lol

Peace

Shawn, I always remove one row at a time...otherwise it gets very messy, for me at least...and I actually find it much easier to be able to get all the LG out of my hair if I do that way...once I remove my wefts off of a row, I can see where the LG boogies are and I just use my parting comb to take them out...there were several parts where the boogies wouldn't come out...so i sprayed them down with the super solve...and they came out easily!
Good luck!

JUST A little tip I learned and it is AWESOMEEEE Cool

When you are done, and you just can't get it clean

Take baking soda add it to your shampoo mix it around and wash your hair with it ,
It will take all that residue out.
Your hair will be so clean it will squeaks !! Shocked
Then wash your hair with what ever shampoo you like and so on.

Also you should try adding warm/ hot water to your weft that is stuck.
yes it does get yucky, but I found that the water helped it melt off.
THEN USE YOUR BAKING SODA I LOVE THAT STUFF.
IT ROCKSsssssssssssss.
I now have a box in my bathroom just for my take downs.
Hope that helps.

Wow, Shawn. I'm sorry you had such a bad time with that one weft.

You know, I don't put Supersolv on everything at once and I don't let anything just sit. I start with the top track and just dribble it onto one end of the top weft. I keep dribbling and gently separate it from my hair. I move the dribble down the weft as it comes loose, pouring a little more on the tough spots. As soon as one weft comes off, if it's a Supertaped weft I IMMEDIATELY pull off the tape. Leaving solvent on the tape causes it to disintegrate into the weft, leaving a HUGE mess. So grab a Kleenex and pull that tape off right away. After the first weft is off and any tape removed, I start on one end of the next weft down, dribbling and slowly working the weft out of my hair.

As far as cleaning the wefts once they're removed, if you've already taken the tape off the weft, the sticky residue will mostly dissipate if you pour a little more Supersolv on the weft and rub the sticky spots. Then shampoo, rubbing along the top of the weft and rinsing well. A good conditioning and the wefts should be clean. Liquid gold is even easier to clean off. Supersolv should cause the glue to turn into little rubbery boogers that brush or pick right off the wefts.

Thanks for the baking soda trick, Singer. I don't usually end up with any residue on my hair or wefts, but some people sure do. It sounds like baking soda will do the trick mixed in when shampooing.

mila, i really think making those careful careful (ok , 45 minutes is EXTREMELY careful!) partings will pay off in a better holding and better feeling install...i hope it wears well for you!

AH thank you! Right off the bat I see where I'm making mistakes...I've been soaking my head with solution...letting it sit a bit ...and yes Kristie it's true that tape does indeed disintegrate into little bubblyy-boogy things that immediately stick to EVERYTHING they touch....what a nightmare...lol. So then next time I'll do it one track at a time, not letting anything sit too long, just pouring along to get the tape out...then pull it right off the weft.
Thanks again my friends

Peace

Shawn

Ok as promised here are some pics!

The MONSTER HAIRBALL!!!

Here is a layout of all the wefts that I used:

Here is my little "mechanism" for keeping the tape down...A razor in the roll of tape on one side and a bottle of gel holding down the other side...hey whatever works right? Razz

This is the LG on top of the weft inside the tape:

My 2 Supertaped wefts!!!
TADA!!!

The 45 minute part!!!!

This is the white paper backing being peeled off on one side

And there it is on the head! Now I have to press with my straightner to ensure that it's on nice and snug in there...

This pic shows how I keep the white backing on in order to make my "first sandwich layer"

And here is the "first sandwich layer" without the paper...See where my finger is pointing? That's where the double sandwich layer will be placed

There's the next weft with LG on it which will act as the covering weft (i.e. the double sandwich layer)

And voila! The sandwich is done!

Kristie, did I explain your technique right????

You surely did, Mila and those are great pictures! Thank you for posting such detailed instructions and clear illustrations of what you did.

That's a pretty scary sized hairball all right, especially when you only wore the install for a few weeks. Shocked I've had them that big on occasion but it was after an install that I wore overly long. I'd watch, install to install, if they turn out all to be that big. If so you might be losing too much hair. For me, the size varies depending on the length I've worn my install and the cycle of growth and hair loss I happen to be in. The other thing that I'm sure will make a difference is how careful you were this time with your install. Making clean partings, installing carefully, and not playing with the install once it is in all seem to make a difference in how big the hair ball is on takedown. It really is worth taking that extra time to make everything neat.
